Weight Chart

You may have heard that recovery from this type of surgery can involve significant weight loss due to the extended period on a liquid diet.  I’ve been told it’s normal to expect a loss of approx 10% body weight during recovery.  Most people gain this back as their diet becomes more permissive.

To give you an idea of my experience with this, I’ll document my weight on a daily basis here.  I’m 5’10”, and so I went into this surgery with approximately 20-30 lbs of “extra” weight (if you believe standardized BMI charts). Like many guys, I carry most of that extra weight around my midsection, so I’ve also included my waist measurement (at belly-button meridian).

Date Weight (lb) Waist (inches)
5/21 (Surgery Day) 206.2 42.50
5/22 (“Liquid Only” diet) 204.2 42.00
5/23 203.4 41.50
5/24 200.6 41.25
5/25 196.6 41.00
5/26 196.4 41.00
5/27 196.0 41.00
5/28 (End week 1) 194.8 40.75
5/29 (“No Chewing” diet) 193.8 40.50
5/30 194.4 40.25
5/31 194.6 40.25
